Palacio Municipal de Congresos, Madrid

Located close to the IFEMA trade fair area in the Campo de las Naciones business complex – the new financial hub of Madrid – the Palacio Municipal de Congresos offers functionality, versatility and cutting-edge technology in all areas related to organising successful conferences, meetings, presentations, exhibitions, product launches and events.

Not to be confused with the similarly named but older Palacio de Congresos, this centre is an impressive example of 21st century urban architecture, the interior of which gives an impression of limitless light and space. It was designed by Ricardo Bofill, the post-modern Spanish architect renowned for fusing the classical syntax of architecture with avant-garde building technology. The complex reflects Bofill's use of powerful forms and distinctive images to create dynamic, magical spaces that enhance the visitor's experience.

Inaugurated in 1993, the centre has many years of experience in hosting both large and small events. It caters as efficiently for small groups as for groups of up to 2,000, and has a track record of both quality and excellence. It also has a reputation for not failing to meet even the most complex of market demands.

The international summits of both NATO and the European Union were held at this venue. It has also hosted the annual meetings of both the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. The 21st Annual Conference for the European Association for International Education (EAIE) will be held at this centre towards the end of 2009.

The Palacio Municipal de Congresos works in conjunction with the Campo de las Naciones municipal company to offer constantly updated and improved services. This assists event organisers to prepare effectively for their specific event requirements with the confidence that all unforeseen difficulties will be effectively resolved. A range of essential services is offered to organisers, such as lighting, simultaneous translation, stand design and mounting, as well as audio-visual facilities. Special services can also be made available, such as hostesses, ushers and security.

The conference centre has over 30,000m2 of floor space that includes spacious exhibition areas, two auditoriums able to seat either 900 or 1,900 respectively, a 2,200m2 multipurpose hall, and 30 rooms of varying capacities. A public car park provides access for 600 vehicles. The superb Europa auditorium – able to seat 1,900 people – features a 300m2 stage, dressing rooms and booths equipped with infrared simultaneous translation systems. The centre's Polivalente hall can be extended to 5,000m2, enabling it host events for up to 4,000 people and lunches for up 2,500. The superb VIP area is located on the 4th floor where a spectacular meeting hall, offices and two private restaurants are situated.

The Palacio Municipal de Congresos is accessible by both the underground (Metro) and the expressway. On the Metro it is only 15 minutes from the city centre and just five minutes from Barajas International Airport.
