The class starts with a short multimedia presentation of approximately 30 minutes on the world of Spanish wines. The experienced
wine instructor
uses her thorough knowledge of wine to give a comprehensive introduction to
the excellent wines of Spain in a fun, informative and interactive manner.
This overview includes interesting and entertaining images of the different
Spanish wine-producing regions.
Participants are provided with a printed hand-out including general
information on Spanish wines and a list of the wines to be tasted during the
event.
6 different Spanish wines are served during the class. The normal combination
is for 4 reds and 2 whites to be offered, but groups may of course suggest their
own combinations, and even specific wines if desired. These wines are good
quality regional wines from good young (joven) wines to top "reservas", allowing
participants to appreciate the full range from those with an excellent
value-quality relationship to some of the highest quality wines in Spain.
The wine-producing regions covered in this "Introduction to Spanish Wines"
include the better known areas of Rioja and Ribera del Duero, but also the new
rising stars such as Jumilla, La Mancha, Priorat, Somontano, Bierzo, and the fashionable Vinos
de la Tierra.
THE TAPAS OPTION
For those wishing to prolong their enjoyment of Spanish specialities, there is
the option of trying some tasty tapas in the adjoining tapas lounge (photos
above). During approximately 1 hour, you will have the chance to sample 5 or 6
delicious tapas, chosen from a range of typical specialities, together with some
light snacks.
This option is available for groups of up to 10 persons and
provides the perfect ending to this wonderful occasion for wining & dining the
Spanish way! (Should you require this option, please click the Reservation
button above and use the comments field on the booking form to indicate your
preference).
FURTHER POSSIBILITIES
Groups can of course further personalize their experience, should
they wish to taste some specific wines, or give a particular focus to
the event. Here we recommend some possibilities, but the list is endless
- just let us know!
- Classic Spanish wines versus the Rising New Stars: A class that compares and contrasts the more classic regions of Spain such as Ribera and Rioja with the regions now gaining in fame such as Bierzo, Jumilla, Toro, and Cataluña.
- Ribera del Duero vs Rioja: The two regions of classic fame in Spain face off! We match elegant Rioja against powerful Ribera del Duero
- Cava versus Champagne: The ultimate sparkling wine tasting! We compare the best of Spanish cavas
against Champagnes from France. We highlight the differences and stress the increasing quality of cava
- Spain versus France: Here we match wines of similar value from France and Spain and decide which wines offer the better quality and value. You'll be surprised by the results!
