Calle Manuela Malasaña in the centre of Madrid is home to Chilango, a Mexican restaurant that is not typical of its genre. It is small, modern and friendly and offers diners an authentic taste of Mexico but with homemade touches that set it apart from other Mexican eateries. Its menu offers dishes such as Chalupas San Francisco (beans, lettuce, cheese, cream, avocado and salsa with chicken on a bed of corn), Tamales (corn dough filled with meat and salsa), or prawns with onion, coriander, tomato and Serrano ham. The mojitos and margaritas are an excellent way to round off a good lunch or dinner.

I ordered the Chilango at Chilango Restaurant. It was incredible. I asked
if they had a cookbook to learn how to make the dish. Or if I could watch
the chef at work. It was seasoned so incredibly. I was worried about the
pineapple being too sweet but it was just enough to tame the spice. It was
an incredible mexican flavor with the very dark seasoning and grilled
onions. It might have been a fresh seasoned rub that they used but it was
definitely juicy. I can´t wait to come back at Christmas time! The
hostesses are very welcoming, the tortillas were served piping hot and the
blended Margarita was delicious. I paid under 20 euro. Great little Mexican
stop for a San Diegan craving authentic Mexican. Glad to have stopped in.
Thank you Chilango!
